Sometimes\n        an earlier skill needs to be reviewed. In other cases, the\n        student understands the concept but needs more practice before\n        being able to use it independently.\n    <\/p>\n\n    <p>\n        A tutor therefore needs to pay attention not only to whether\n        an answer is right or wrong, but also to how the student\n        approached the problem and where the reasoning began to break down.\n    <\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n<!-- EXPLAIN GUIDE CHECK -->\n\n<section class=\"tutor-section\">\n\n    <h2>\n        Explain, Guide, Observe and Check\n    <\/h2>\n\n    <p>\n        During tutoring, students may need different levels of support\n        at different times. At the beginning of a difficult skill,\n        the tutor may need to explain the concept carefully and work\n        through examples with the student.\n    <\/p>\n\n    <p>\n        Once the student begins to understand, the tutor can reduce\n        the amount of direct help and allow the student to attempt\n        problems independently.\n    <\/p>\n\n    <p>\n        This gives the tutor an opportunity to see whether the student\n        truly understands the concept or was simply following the\n        tutor&#8217;s steps.\n    <\/p>\n\n    <div class=\"tutor-highlight\">\n\n        <p>\n            <strong>The goal is not to keep a student dependent on the tutor.<\/strong>\n            Good tutoring should help the student become increasingly capable\n            of working through academic problems independently.\n        <\/p>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n<!-- QUESTIONS -->\n\n<section class=\"tutor-section\">\n\n    <h2>\n        Students Should Feel Comfortable Asking Questions\n    <\/h2>\n\n    <p>\n        Students often arrive at tutoring after feeling confused in\n        school or frustrated by an assignment.
